Wendy’s
In terms of Ireland Wendy’s would normally really be known as we have none of their thousands of restaurants in our country but in America it is one of the most influential chains to ever grace their land. It is third largest in the list for number of stores country wide behind McDonald’s and Burger king. Due to it not being as popular as these two Wendy’s relies on loyalty and reputations such as their never frozen square patties and chilly sauce. Due to this they have grown a following of regulars who keep the chain a float. During the 1980s burger wars Wendy’s launched the “where’s the beef?” campaign this put them on map and they have just kept growing from there. They are now one of the biggest fast food chains in America targeting all ages with they’re promise of quality food all the time.
However for all the fast food chains I believe the problems lies with how it is marketed towards children. As they grow up its a cheap and easy meal for parents so feed their kids as a “treat” but as they grow up and have their own money to spent this treat will become a regular thing. And the cycle continues. The company won’t stop this it’s in the publics hands to take a stand.

KFC
Due to its nature as a fast food restaurant KFC is both a secondary and tertiary activity. It is providing the raw materials to the public but also providing a service. They source their chicken from over 1000 farms all over America. This sorcerer provides a staggering 23 million chickens a year. But how do farmers keep up with the demand? Well the chickens are genetically designed to grow at a rapid rate. The parts used are also modified to ensure they are the largest part of the chicken. This un natural up bringing causes deformities and many chickens are left un able to walk due to the rapid growth on there little legs. The farmers are sworn to secrecy as to these operations and their coops are in complete darkness leaving the chickens nothing more than an option on the menu.

But their clever marketing will never fail to pull the wool over your eyes and draw you to the nearest store.

Burger King

When you think of burger king you think of a fast food chain in competition with McDonalds when in actual fact you couldn’t be further from the truth. The reports of Burger king’s revenue are becoming increasingly low due to McDonalds becoming larger and larger (like its visitors ;)). I will show you a bar chart below of just what I mean about low and how really burger king is no match for the food giant that is McDonalds. But enough about stats and profits let’s move onto the food itself. This bar chart has no numbers but you can see the pattern forming.

The famous double bacon cheese burger contains 520 calories which Is ¼ of your daily recommended intake for a grown male. It also contains 31g of fat which is 49% of your recommended intake. This is before adding on the drink, fries and other various sides. After all that there is not much space left for other foods throughout the day. Referring to the chart again in 2013 we see a dramatic fall in revenue and this is also the year when the chain admitted to using horse meat in their burgers. The contamination came from the Irish based company Silvercrest which is part of the ABP food group.

Fast food post 1 McDonalds

McDonalds

The chicken in McDonalds is mainly sourced from the country it is being eaten in. they use the tenderloin breast rib of the chicken. It is ground up along some skin and also flavoured marinade. The chicken is moulded in the four iconic shapes (the boot, the bell, the ball and the bone). These shapes are so familiar to most without the realisation that they are made this way on purpose.

Moving on from their chicken we move into the economy and jobs in America. Did you know 1 in 8 Americans has at some point in their life been employed by McDonalds. This startling statistic shows just how much control McDonalds has over the economy and employment in America. It is because of this that America is 12th in the world for obesity with 35% of the population being overweight. I find this scary and the only way to control this is to reduce to number of McDonalds from 14,267 to at most 10,000. In 2013 McDonalds raked in a whopping $28.11 billion up from 2005 of $19.12 billion. Can you see the trend?
